PMC’s MLK Multifaith Day of Service

The third Monday of each January signals the coming of an important day, and the bravery that characterizes it. To celebrate this, on the 15th of January, the Peninsula Multifaith Coalition (PMC) hosted its Annual MLK Mutlifaith Day of Service, drawing together hundreds of volunteers from over 30 diverse faith houses, volunteer groups and organizations across the San Mateo County community. This special occasion saw individuals from different backgrounds coming together to engage in various community service projects, ranging from open-air barbeques to elderly singing sessions, from craft & sewing booths to painting for children, and much more. BAYCC was also among the participating organizations, attending the program with over 15 volunteers who then contributed to the different activities throughout the day.

The memorable day started off at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Foster City, where volunteers came together and assembled to embark on their respective projects. Children, adults, as well as seniors, from a rich pool of ethnicities, genders and backgrounds, filled the hall, painting a lasting portrait of unity that crowned the rest of the day as it unfolded. A warm welcome was followed by a hearty open-buffet breakfast, fueling the volunteers for the day ahead.

Landscaping for nearby schools was another activity that gathered quite the traction. On the other end, volunteers assembled meal kits for families in need, while others entertained the seniors with an open-mic performance session. Hand-sewn bags were filled with pairs of new shoes for children, while local shelters were visited to serve meals to individuals in need.

The success of this MLK Multifaith Day of Service was made possible by the selfless efforts of the PMC, as well as the attending organizations, in coordinating the event. Throughout the day, the spirit of volunteerism bloomed beautifully, allowing for a day of one-ness, as well as an opportunity to help our local community. We as BAYCC would like to congratulate the PMC and all fellow organizations for the success of the annual  MLK Multifaith Day of Service, and look forward to the continuation of these peaceful efforts in the name of a higher good.
